Terms of Service

These Terms govern your access to and use of the ClassMate website, mobile app, subscriptions, community features, and related services.

Last updated: April 16, 2026

Community safety notice

ClassMate has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Harassment, threats, hate, sexual exploitation, impersonation, illegal content, academic misconduct schemes, and other abusive behavior may be reported, blocked, removed, and can lead to suspension or permanent account termination.

Academic productivity service

ClassMate helps users manage assignments, notes, schedules, projects, learning tools, grades, and optional collaboration features.

Student and district use

Users must be at least 13 unless use is part of an approved school deployment with required consent and review.

Subscriptions

Web billing may use Stripe. iOS subscriptions and restores are handled through Apple in-app purchases and synced through RevenueCat.

Your content

You keep ownership of your content. You give ClassMate the rights needed to host, display, sync, secure, moderate, and operate the service.

1. Agreement to these Terms

The ClassMate services are operated by Scholar Technologies, doing business as ClassMate ("ClassMate," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using ClassMate, creating an account, purchasing a subscription, or clicking to accept these Terms, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

If you use ClassMate on behalf of a school, district, organization, or other entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use ClassMate.

2. The ClassMate service

ClassMate is an academic productivity and collaboration platform. Features may include assignments, notes, events, schedules, projects, grade tracking, AP study tools, analytics, reminders, profiles, people/community tools, and optional connected services such as Google, Canvas, Stripe, Apple, RevenueCat, Supabase, and Vercel-backed services.

Some features are free, some may require an account, and some may require a paid plan. Availability can vary by platform, school configuration, district-safe mode, subscription status, device, region, and app version.

3. Eligibility, students, and school use

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use ClassMate unless your use is part of an approved school or district deployment with required consent and contracting.
  • If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use ClassMate only with permission from a parent or guardian, or through an approved school deployment.
  • School-managed accounts, including district Google Workspace accounts, should be used only after the school or district completes its own approval, privacy review, and any required data privacy agreement process.
  • District-safe deployments may disable or limit community, chat, creator, or other social features.

District reviewers can use our School District Privacy & DPA Packet, DPA readiness summary, and subprocessor list. A signed school or district agreement, if any, controls where it conflicts with these public Terms.

4. Accounts and security

You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information, maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials, and all activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

You may not create accounts using false information, impersonate another person, share an account in a way that creates security or privacy risk, or use another person's account without permission.

5. Acceptable use and academic integrity

You agree not to use ClassMate to:

  • Violate any law, school rule, academic integrity policy, or third-party right.
  • Harass, threaten, abuse, exploit, bully, intimidate, defame, or discriminate against anyone.
  • Upload or share content that is hateful, sexually exploitative, violent, illegal, invasive of privacy, deceptive, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Post another person's personal information without permission.
  • Cheat, sell answers, coordinate academic misconduct, or misrepresent work as your own.
  • Attempt to access accounts, data, systems, integrations, or APIs without authorization.
  • Interfere with, scrape, overload, reverse engineer, or disrupt the service except as allowed by law.
  • Use ClassMate to distribute malware, spam, phishing, scams, or misleading content.
  • Bypass subscription limits, moderation actions, safety controls, or security measures.

6. Community content, reporting, and blocking

ClassMate may include community, profile, comments, direct messages, study group, creator, or other user-generated content features. You are responsible for what you post, share, or send.

ClassMate provides ways to report content and block users where community features are enabled. Reports may be reviewed by the ClassMate team or trusted service providers. We may remove content, restrict visibility, disable features, suspend accounts, terminate accounts, or report activity to appropriate authorities where we believe it is necessary to protect users, the service, or legal rights.

We are not obligated to monitor all content, but we may review content when it is reported, flagged by safety systems, required by law, or needed for support, security, or service operations.

7. Subscriptions, payments, and in-app purchases

Plans and renewals

ClassMate may offer free and paid plans. Paid plans may include Pro, Premium, or other plans described in the app at the time of purchase. Subscription features, prices, billing periods, trial availability, renewal terms, and cancellation rules are shown before purchase and may vary by platform, region, and store.

Web billing

Web subscriptions may be processed by Stripe or another payment provider. If you subscribe through a web billing flow, your subscription may renew automatically until canceled. You can manage or cancel web billing using the billing management tools shown in your account or by contacting us for help.

Apple in-app purchases

If you subscribe in the iOS app, purchase, renewal, cancellation, refund, and restore flows are handled through Apple in-app purchase. Apple may charge your Apple ID payment method, and Apple's App Store terms and subscription settings apply. ClassMate uses RevenueCat to help sync App Store purchase status with your ClassMate account.

  • Auto-renewable subscriptions renew unless canceled before the end of the current billing period according to Apple's rules.
  • You can manage or cancel Apple subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
  • The iOS app includes a restore-purchases flow for eligible App Store purchases.
  • Refund requests for Apple in-app purchases are handled by Apple, unless Apple directs otherwise.
  • Some web-purchased features may not unlock inside the iOS app unless the app shows that the entitlement is supported there.

Changes and access

We may change plan names, features, prices, or availability prospectively. If your payment fails, your subscription expires, or a store reports that your entitlement is no longer active, paid features may be reduced or removed.

8. Your content and feedback

You keep ownership of notes, assignments, files, profile details, posts, messages, and other content you create or upload to ClassMate ("User Content").

You grant ClassMate a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, transmit, process, modify for formatting, back up, moderate, secure, and otherwise use your User Content as needed to operate, improve, protect, and provide the service. For content you choose to share publicly or with other users, this license includes showing that content to the audience you selected.

You represent that you have the rights needed to submit your User Content and that it does not violate these Terms or anyone else's rights. If you send ideas, suggestions, or feedback, you allow us to use that feedback without restriction or compensation.

9. ClassMate intellectual property

ClassMate, including its software, design, text, graphics, logos, trademarks, features, and other materials, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use ClassMate for its intended educational and productivity purposes.

You may not copy, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer, or exploit ClassMate except as permitted by these Terms, the app's intended functionality, or applicable law.

10. Third-party services and integrations

ClassMate may integrate with third-party services such as Supabase, Vercel, Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple, Google, Canvas, notification providers, and other services listed in our subprocessor list. Third-party services may have their own terms and privacy policies.

Optional integrations are user-directed. You are responsible for having the right to connect third-party accounts and for complying with third-party terms, school policies, and district rules that apply to those accounts.

11. Privacy and student data

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the controls available to users. District and school deployments may also be governed by a signed DPA or other written agreement.

We do not state in these Terms that student data is sold or shared with third-party advertising networks for behavioral advertising. If that changes, the Privacy Policy and applicable notices must be updated before the change occurs.

12. iOS app and Apple terms

If you download ClassMate from the Apple App Store, your use of the iOS app is also subject to Apple's App Store terms, usage rules, and any applicable Apple license terms. The iOS app is licensed, not sold.

  • ClassMate, not Apple, is responsible for the app, app content, maintenance, support, and claims relating to the app, except where applicable law says otherwise.
  • Apple is not responsible for providing maintenance or support for ClassMate, except as required by applicable law.
  • You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country or region subject to a U.S. government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this section and may enforce it against you.

13. Educational and AI-assisted features

ClassMate is an organizational, productivity, and study support tool. It does not guarantee grades, test scores, admissions results, academic outcomes, or eligibility for any program.

Any analytics, prioritization, reminders, grade projections, AI-assisted suggestions, or study recommendations are informational only. You are responsible for checking the accuracy of your assignments, notes, due dates, grades, study materials, and submissions.

14. Service changes and availability

We may add, change, suspend, discontinue, or limit features at any time. We try to keep ClassMate reliable, but the service may be unavailable due to maintenance, outages, third-party provider issues, platform requirements, security events, or other reasons.

We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version will be posted at https://www.classmate.plus/terms.html. Continued use after an update means you accept the updated Terms.

15. Suspension and termination

You may stop using ClassMate at any time. Account deletion tools may be available inside the app. Some records may remain for a limited period as described in the Privacy Policy, required by law, needed for billing records, or preserved for safety, security, or abuse prevention.

We may suspend or terminate access, remove content, or restrict features if we believe you violated these Terms, created risk for users or the service, failed to pay applicable fees, or used ClassMate in a way that may create legal, security, safety, or operational harm.

17. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

ClassMate is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted operation, accuracy, and availability.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ClassMate and its owners, employees, contractors, service providers, and affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, or academic outcomes. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to ClassMate for the service giving rise to the claim in the six months before the claim or $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

18. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of law principles, except where applicable consumer, student privacy, or other mandatory law provides otherwise.

Before filing a formal claim, you agree to contact us and try to resolve the issue informally. Unless applicable law requires a different venue, disputes that proceed in court will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Texas.

19. California users

If a complaint is not satisfactorily resolved, California residents may contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, California 95834, by telephone at (800) 952-5210 or (916) 445-1254.
